Marsy’s Law for Georgia Announces Partnership with Paint Love and Cobb Family Advocacy Center for Impactful Art Project During Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Marsy’s Law will sponsor a community-created, trauma-informed mural at the Cobb Family Advocacy Center managed by Paint Love.
ATLANTA – October 29, 2024 – To close out October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Marsy’s Law for Georgia proudly announces a partnership with the Cobb Family Advocacy Center and Paint Love nonprofits. Marsy’s Law for Georgia is partially sponsoring a Paint Love mural on an interior wall at the Cobb Family Advocacy Center (FAC) to greet clients as they enter the building to begin a journey of healing and growth. Cobb FAC provides comprehensive services and resources to survivors of abuse in one central location. Through a collaboration of community partners, Cobb FAC offers legal services, counseling, resources for shelter and more to those seeking assistance from domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse, stalking and human trafficking. Paint Love is a nonprofit organization bringing extraordinary arts programming to schools and nonprofit partners, empowering kids through creative projects that are artist-led and shaped by trauma-informed standards. The organization envisions a world where all young people have access to creative experiences that empower them to imagine a future not limited by adverse experiences. Since 2014, Paint Love has served more than 35,000 young people together with 150+ schools and community partners.
“I am so glad that Marsy’s Law approached us with this idea and connected us with Paint Love,” said Kim McCoy, Cobb Family Advocacy Center executive director. “Our primary goal is to make our clients feel safe, and what better way to do that than to make them feel welcome as soon as they walk in our doors with a beautiful community-painted mural? I'm thrilled to collaborate with our clients and partners on the design and can’t wait to work with Paint Love to make their vision a reality.”
Paint Love will work with Cobb FAC and its community partners on a theme and design for the mural over the next few months, then Cobb FAC will host a community paint day with its clients, staff and partners in March during Creative Arts Therapy Week. The mural’s ribbon-cutting is scheduled for April during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Please visit the Cobb Family Advocacy Center website for a full list of resources and services.

About Marsy’s Law
Marsy’s Law is named after Marsalee “Marsy” Nicholas of California who was stalked and killed by her ex-boyfriend in 1983. Only one week after her death, Marsy’s mother and brother, Henry T. Nicholas, walked into a grocery store where they were confronted by the accused murderer. The family, who had just come from a visit to Marsy’s gravesite, was unaware that the accused had been released on bail. In an effort to honor his sister, Dr. Nicholas has made it his mission to ensure victims of crime have constitutional rights and protections in every state. He formed Marsy’s Law For All in 2009 to pass those rights and provide subject matter expertise to service providers and stakeholders within the criminal justice process.
